This is my first external hard drive and it was very easy to hook-up ... plug and play ... the USB computer cable that came with it is 22" long ... I measured it ... and i found that it is best when it sits behind my computer backwards ... because the USB cable reaches my computer just fine that way and it is easier to access the on/off button ... I have a Mac desktop with Tiger OS X 10.4.11 ... I don't have the Time Machine application ... i use my new LaCie Grand manually to back up my data/files pictures/videos .. etc ... just click on "save as" ... like you would with a memory stick, or whatever, and there it is ... click on "save to LaCie" ... and you've got it ... very easy ... this little machine is very quite too ... i like it and I recommend it ... P.S. i didn't have enough USB plugs on the back of my computer so I bought a small 4 port mini USB hub form Amazon for $6 and it works great ...

been a fan of lacie drives since the f.a. porsches. this is no exception, solid, quiet, and does the job well. using it for my Apple Time Machine backups. very happy with the purchase!

I got the LaCie Grand 1 TB USB external drive when I upgraded my iMac to a new one and needed much more back up space for Apple's awesome Time Machine to work freely. The price and delivery time for the drive were right, so I ordered it. When it arrived, set up was easy, but for some reason, the computer didn't recognize the drive. I tried a bunch of things and determined that the cable from the drive to the computer wasn't working. I called customer service and was walked through a couple of steps to see if the problem was something else. When it was determined that it was probably the cable, the representative told me I'd have a new cable in a couple of days. He expedited the part because I had nothing running a back up. It came in three days and did the trick. I was impressed that he went the extra distance for me. Excellent customer service.

I think the drive works fine. I especially like the fact that I can have it turned on before I start up my computer. On my 500 GB LaCie drive, I always have to make sure it's turned off.

I own a MacBook and was looking for a way to back up my information without spending a significant amount of money on equipment. A friend recommended this product to me. I've had it for a couple of months and it works exactly as it should. It's a great peace of mind to know my information is safe. As far as user friendly goes, it couldn't be easier. It works directly with Mac's Time Machine. I am not computer savvy so I was looking for something that would get the job done as simply as possible. I found it with this product.
